OWEN-CAT
Owen is an independent researcher working with me on Earth system and biogeochemical meowdelling. His research interests span numerical meowdel development, radiation exposure, complex problem solving, and grass-based field studies.
He is perhaps best known for his contributions to the development of OMEN-SED, where he provides conceptual guidance and hands-on assistance with the MATLAB code. Indeed, he is widely regarded as the real brain behind the model. The (non-coincidental) similarity between OWEN and OMEN has led to occasional confusion regarding its intellectual origins.
Meowdel development
Owen has been involved in the development of OMEN-SED for many years. His responsibilities include inspecting MATLAB code, evaluating meowdel output, and identifying problems that might otherwise have gone unnoticed.
Other research interests
Owen’s research interests extend considerably beyond sediment biogeochemistry. Among other things, he conducts experimental work on radiation exposure and extensive field studies of terrestrial vegetation.
A further research focus is complex problem solving. Owen’s preferred approach is to first establish the full extent of a problem and then remain close to it until a solution emerges.
Work-life balance
Like any successful researcher, Owen recognizes the importance of recovery. Periods of intensive meowdel development and field work are therefore interspersed with carefully planned cat naps.
